Capitale économique du pays et première ville du Maghreb, elle est située sur la côte Atlantique à environ 80 km au
sud de la capitale du pays, Rabat.
Elle appartient à la région du Grand Casablanca qui, sur 1 615 km², regroupe
également les villes de Mohammedia (120 000 hab.), Ain Harrouda, les deux provinces Mediouna et Nouasser et compte
environ 5,6 millions d’habitants en 2005
